Upon the closing date of the announcement, the Human Resource Division will review all applications received to determine if applicants meet the minimum qualifications for the position. The qualifying applications are then delivered to the selecting official(s) for selection of interviewees. If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted by the interviewing official. After all interviews have taken place and an applicant has been offered and accepted the position, the remaining applicants will be contacted by telephone or letter to be informed that the position has been filled. The only exception to this selection process is the applicants selected for job offers are required to submit to, and pass, a County paid pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screening. Applicants are considered for all positions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, ancestry, age, marital or veteran status, or the presence of a medical condition or disability (unless a bona fide occupational qualification for the position). Open Continuous Status - When a job vacancy announcement states that the closing date is Open Continuous, this means an applicant may submit an application at anytime and when a vacancy occurs all applicants who have filed an application since the last time there was a vacancy will be considered. In the case of Deputy Cadet, testing is scheduled on an as needed basis. Testing for Deputy Cadet is usually needed once every six to eight months and will be preceded by recruitment advertising in both the New Mexican and Albuquerque Journal papers for two consecutive Sundays. Applicants who apply outside of the newspaper recruitment period Do Not need to reapply.
The process of application screening begins once a job arrives to its closing date. As long as the application has been stamped in on, or before the closing date and is signed, it can continue with the screening process according to the following procedures:
1. Each applicant must meet minimum qualifications on the job description
which are based on education, experience, or both. Higher education may be
substituted for work experience, as well as relevant work experience can be
substituted for a degree. Work experience may be substituted with higher education
at a rate of 30 credit hours per one year of experience.
2. After documentation is verified and years of experience are added up,
each application will either be accepted or rejected:
* rejected: for those applications that do not meet the minimum qualifications,
a letter is sent to the applicant informing them of this.
* accepted: for those applicants who are accepted, their names are put
on a list of qualified of applicants.
* The Human Resources Division has three working days to complete the list
of qualified applicants.
3. The original list of qualified applicants are then forwarded to the
department. From there, the department will choose who they would like to
continue in the hiring process and all applicants will be contacted by a phone
call or by letter.
4. When the decision is made, again the applicant will be notified by a
phone call or letter.
