Planning DivisionThe Planning Division of the Growth Management Department is responsible for the implementation of the County Sustainable Growth Management Plan (SGMP) and long range planning activities. The Planning Division consists of Community Planning, Economic Development including Renewable Energy projects, Affordable Housing, Water Conservation, Transportation, and GIS support. The Planning Division also provides staff for the Regional Planning Authority (RPA). Community Planning – The community planners work on a variety of activities and issues, including the interpretation and implementation of the Sustainable Growth Management Plan, evolving the Community Planning program, and coordinating the Public Participation process to establish the community organization and public notification options. Planning staff also offers expertise related to environmental and natural resource planning, historic and cultural resource/preservation planning, food systems planning, and acequias and land use related issues. Economic Development – The economic development planner is involved in initiatives related to economic infrastructure, targeted cluster industries, workforce development, business services and regional partnerships. Critical infrastructure projects include Regional Broadband, Regional Energy Financing District, and infrastructure including the Santa Fe Studios project. Water Conservation – The Water Conservation Program Coordinator is involved in the County domestic well metering Program, the Water Harvesting Program, and participates in Public Education and Outreach efforts and the implementation of the Water Conservation Plan. Affordable Housing Program – The affordable housing staff is involved in producing, enforcing and recommending changes related to the ordinances and regulations for the Affordable Housing Program. The mission of the Affordable Housing Program is to provide increased affordable housing opportunities to workforce families living within the northern and central area of the County. Transportation Planning - The transportation planner works with several transportation entities including the Technical Coordinating Committee of the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD), the Northern Pueblos Regional Planning Organization (NPRPO) and the Regional Planning Authority (RPA). Staff is currently working to develop a Transportation Improvement Plan for all road projects identified as Capital Improvements Projects (CIP). Geographic Information Systems (GIS) – The GIS planner provides the Planning Division with GIS–based mapping, analysis, and database management, to support the preparation of the SGMP, community and district plans, and the land development code.
