Burro Lane Park

Burro Lane Park is located at the intersection of Burro Lane and Quail View Lane off West Alameda near the Siler Bridge and roundabout in Santa Fe, New Mexico. 

Santa Fe County hired a landscape architect in Spring 2010 to develop a design that includes sheltered picnic facilities, a trail loop, playground, and small parking area as well as a school bus turnaround. The surrounding community contributed and participated in the design development process. They expressed a desire for a nature inspired park that incorporated permaculture techniques for drainage and water harvesting, natural and regionally appropriate materials, and a connection to the surrounding rural environment. 

The final design for Burro Lane Park is based on the idea of creating and sustaining a natural habit for birds to forage, nest, and live. Shelters, observation points, and a walking trail allow for opportunities to view and enjoy the birds and other wildlife as well as native wildflowers, grasses, and drought tolerant shrubs, and trees. There is no access to water on the property therefore the site has been graded to maximize passive water harvesting opportunities. A planting plan was designed to correspond with the areas that will receive and collect surface runoff.  The first phase of construction is tentatively scheduled for early Fall 2011.
